Surgical, medical and supportive cancer care for common solid tumours and blood cancers, planned around each patient’s diagnosis and stage.
Surgical oncology may play an important role in the treatment of several solid tumours. Depending on the cancer type and stage, surgery may be used to remove a tumour, obtain a tissue diagnosis, assess nearby lymph nodes, reduce tumour size or relieve symptoms. Cancer treatment is usually planned after reviewing diagnostic reports, imaging, pathology findings and the patient’s overall health. Some patients may require surgery alone, while others may need a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy or hormonal treatment.
